Ellsworth Air Force Base is home to the 28th Bomb Wing, which flies the B1 "Bone" bomber and is one of two B-1B Lancer strategic bomber bases in the country. It is named for Brig. General Richard E. Ellsworth, a RB-36 Peacemaker pilot who crashed in Newfoundland after having flown over 400 missions during World War II, and is located near Rapid City, South Dakota.
